Pre-season friendly fixture
Chertsey Town travelled into Sussex on Saturday as guests of newly promoted side to their Division One, Crawley Down. The match was played on their training pitch which contributed to a scrappy untidy game which neither side dominated. The two goals, both secured in the first half, were similar in nature in being crosses from the wing that were converted low on the far post.
The first came from the right flank after just five minutes with the home side taking the lead. Town replied on 36 minutes with Gary McLaughlin feeding out to Joe Johnson on the left wing where he centred for Matt Grave slot home.
Chertsey have retained only five first team players from last term’s squad, the Bamford Brothers, Matt Holley, John Pomroy and Steve Gibson and although their latest match was not their finest to date, good quality signings have been brought in and Saturday’s visit Knaphill should give a good indication who, from the 19 signed, will take preference when the season starts on 8th August.
