Forest play in the Sussex County Football League - Division 3

MATCH REPORT

This friendly fixture against second ranked Sussex League opposition again confirmed that Chertsey Town have the makings of a side that will force the pace in the coming season. Sure, the host side had their limitations and the final score could, and really should have, been more punishing, but it was the manner of Town's play with strong cohesion and passing that cheered more than the finishing.

The lead was established twelve minutes into the game with Paul Brooker crossing the ball for John Pomroy to head back into the path of Gavin Bolger who fired home from 12 yards. The lead was increased with Brooker again the provider, this time to set up a Pomroy volley into the Forest net.

Six minutes into the second half saw Brooker setting up again, this time for Marcus Moody to clip the ball home at close range when under pressure. A goalmouth scramble on the hour was cleared up with Simon Langley firing through a gap.

A further goal might have given a better reflection of play when, ten minutes from time, Brooker was felled from behind but Pomroy, from the penalty spot, only managed to find the woodwork for the second time in the encounter.

Town's defence was also dominant with only a first half long range shot from distance that also rattled the upright being the closest the Horsham based side came to a reply.
