01.11.11 Update 11

Let me first start this week’s update by thanking all the supporters who took the time out at Saturday’s game away to Chalfont to let me know their thoughts on how they feel the season is going up to now.
Every week you, the supporters of Chertsey Town turn up come rain or snow, windy or sunny, you are always there cheering on the players. For that the Gaffer, Koo, myself and all the players wanted to thank each and every one of You for the time you give up each week .

As promised when I started this page I said HERE would be the first place to read about any news about signing of players and players leaving. I’m sorry to inform you that on the latest signing another web site beat me to announcing the latest signing.
This website had a clear head start on me as the CHERTSEY TOWN UNOFFICAL WEBSITE is run by the son of the clubs'
Hon Secretary (the person in charge of signing the players). So I would like to take the time to apologise for giving and misinforming you untrue information.
So for anyone who hasn’t been to the UNOFFICAL WEBSITE here is breaking news.
Chertsey Town can announce of the signing of former Arsenal , and European Cup Winner (and CHERTSEY BORN ) IAN SELLEY  .
Ian has joined us on loan from Kingstonian and went straight in to tonight’s League Cup game away to AFC Hayes.
In tonight’s game the other great news Moses Spencer played 60 minutes and came through the game without any reaction to his injury.
Final Score AFC HAYES 1 – 6 CHERTSEY TOWN (Bennett 1, Page 1, E Smith 4)

Player Departs –
Lewis Ochea has left the club and signed for tonight’s opponents AFC HAYES, Lewis wanted me to thank everyone at the club for the support they gave him while he was here. But due to work commitments and with AFC Hayes being closer the young player has made the decision to leave.

NEW ARTICLE

With the overwhelming success of this page and the sheer high numbers of readers, the skipper Mr David Johnston is putting pen to paper as Mr. William Shakespeare (not!) he has penned his first skipper’s voice. Please make yourself comfortable as this may take sound time to read.
(note from web editor - if Jono's updates prove as popular as Garbo's he may get his own page.)

CAPTAIN'S BLOG - Star date 01.11.11

I would like to start the first Captains Blog by thanking the Chertsey faithful for all of your support over the past three months.
Whether the support was at home versus Lewes in the FA Cup, away at Southend Manor or the more recent away trip to
Chalfont St. Peter, the encouragement, cheering, celebrations, shared disappointment, and of course the songs, are all very much appreciated by all of the players.

Trying to summarise the season up to now won’t be easy, but I will do my best and try to keep it short.

Pre-season saw many promises come and go from players saying they would sign but never did and then adding to that the injuries to key players.
To say we had an unexpected poor start to the league campaign is an understatement. An unlucky opening day away loss to Rugby, a draw at home to Afc Hayes, followed by defeats from title contenders Slough and Ashford meant that we were staring at the bottom of the table after just four games. A spirited home victory against Uxbridge got the campaign going and since then we have had only one loss with six wins in the last seven league matches making Chertsey the form team in the league.
As of 29th October we are only four points off top spot which is a great position to be in.

The FA Cup was of mixed emotion having beaten ex CCL rivals Badshot Lea and then hammering Ryman Premier side Lewes then having the disappointment in losing to Southend Manor.
The FA trophy is our next big thing behind the league campaign and we intend to again upset the odds by beating Ashford Town and hopefully drawing and beating a Conference club at home (preferably), in the 3rd round Qualifying!

Players with impressive football C.V’s have since come and gone which I think shows the quality we have at Chertsey. We have a blend of youth, experience, skill, flair, grit, determination, quality, hard men, cool heads and only a few babies at times spitting their proverbial dummy out, along with throwing the toys from the pram!
You decide which players fit the descriptions!
The goal keeping position has had 6 applicants so far but thankfully we may have found the right one in Jordan at last.

It’s great to have Andy Crossley back in the squad from his injury and also I see Moses is now pushing for a place in the back line since his pre-season ankle nightmare.

With so much quality in the current starting eleven and with the five or six anxiously waiting for their opportunity, it would take a super-human player to break into the Chertsey team now!

With November now here, do we have what it takes to see the winter through and everything that the Christmas period throws at us, and hopefully, just hopefully stay within a few points from the top spot?
Have Spencer, Koo and Garbo eventually assembled a squad good enough to challenge? The players certainly think so!

So I will finish this column by saying to the supporters; please keep coming to watch, even when the rain, frost, ice, fog, snow, and the freezing temperatures are well and truly upon us. You really are needed and definitely are our most important twelfth man!!
